This lovely hairstyle was done by my daughter Annalisa. I will try to explain what she did.
This first part I did not show in detail, but I will explain in detail. You basically curl her hair in sections just like you do when you curl your own hair. Any method will do.
Here is Annalisa's method: She brushed her hair out. She finger curled each piece, which is when you wrap the piece around the curling iron, ending with the end of the hair and hold the end until it is heated through. She curled it really tight. Then when she finished, she held the curl up against her head and pinned it while it cooled. This keeps the weight of the hair from pulling the curl out sooner. She went all the way around her head and then took the pins out when the last one was cooled. Then she hair sprayed it all. She also does it in two parts which are the bottom half and the top half.
The next part is what gives her hair more texture. She pulled it back one curl at a time and kept adding it to the pony tail.
She started with the top piece.
Then added another curl one the side.
Then she grabbed from the opposite side.
And went back and forth.
See how pretty it looks when you do it this way.
She continued alternating from each side.
Lastly she added from the bottom.
She used a hair band for the ponytail.
Notice that this ponytail is high, but not too high.
Next she pulled the hair around the ponytail with her fingers to make it lay evenly.
She took one curl and wrapped it around her fingers like her fingers were a curling iron. She pinned it down. Then she continued around her head wrapping one curl at a time.
She pinned it loosely. And she tried to pin it into the base of the ponytail to make it more secure.
She did the same thing with her next curl. She wrapped it around her fingers and pinned it.
She continued around her head until it was all pinned.
Then she stuck her fingers in it to give it some volume.
At the end she pulled curls a little until it looked like she wanted it. You can even redo any that didn't turn out great. It's very forgiving because they are done loosely and because they are pinned in place.
The curls do not have to be perfect. It is very romantic looking no matter how well you do.
